Workout Stacking: What is it? How should I use it to make my training sessions even better?

In the fitness industry it seems that there are always new trends coming and going, and this time it's something called “workout stacking”. It is a new method of fitness where you take fitness classes back-to-back, in the form of “stacking”. For example, instead of doing 1 hour of cardio on the treadmill, you could split it up and do 20 minutes of rowing, 20 minutes of strength, and 20 minutes of pilates. Although it’s essential to stick to a routine when working out, it’s also important to spice things up, have some fun, and of course, do what works for YOU! Keep reading to learn more about these 3 incredible benefits.

Increase Motivation:

Workout stacking is a great way to increase your motivation in the gym. Trying new classes or workout styles in shorter periods of time can increase your motivation because it keeps your workouts different and exciting! Lifting weights in the gym can become quite repetitive which can cause a lack of motivation, but by changing your routine up through workout stacking your mind can stay excited and intrigued. Workout stacking also gives you the ability to try new types of workouts that may be different from your usual routine and provides a challenge.

Full Body Workout:

Another benefit of working stacking is that it is a great full-body workout. If you live a busy lifestyle and don’t have time to hit the gym every day, workout stacking gives you the ability to have your workouts be full body focused, that way you are getting more bang for your buck in the gym! For example, you can do a lower body focused strength workout for 10 minutes, then 10 minutes with an incline walk on the treadmill or a body weight HIIT circuit, and finish with 10 minutes of upper body supersets with weights or resistance bands. By stacking these 3 workouts back-to-back in one day, you're hitting all areas of your body in just 30 minutes!

Time Saver:

Lastly, workout stacking can be a huge time saver. Everyone can prioritize 20-60 minutes in their day and workout stacking gives you the ability to take that shorter amount of time to workout, but still see results! Even if you only have time for two or three different workouts, that’s still a good amount of time to burn some calories and release endorphins! It’s easy to make excuses as to why you can’t get into the gym, but stacking these workouts to get in and out is the perfect solution.

With workout stacking, you are able to target various muscle groups, movement patterns, and fitness components within a single session. By doing so, you can optimize your time at the gym! Workout stacking may be a new trend, but we think it's here to stay. Not only is it fun, but it is an easy way to get in a quick workout during the day!
