Whether you’re just starting out or well into your fitness journey it’s important to measure your progress. Progress can be measured in different ways. Some people look at endurance as progress while others like to watch their body fat percentage go down. However you measure progress, we are here to support you! 

Building a strong you won’t happen overnight, but taking incremental steps in progress is how you will reach your goals! 

Endurance

Endurance is “the ability to withstand hardship or adversity especially : the ability to sustain a prolonged stressful effort or activity”. Building endurance isn’t only a great way to measure progress but you’ll be able to push harder without feeling as fatigued. A great way to build endurance is through bursts of energy where you give it your ALL. Whether you are in a cycle, rowing, or HIIT style class when the instructor says to push to your max, give it all you got! 

If you are using weights and focusing on strength training it is recommended to do three sets of 20-100 reps. A great way to make progress is by adding 5 -10 reps each week. Setting a goal for how many reps you want to add will help keep you motivated! 

 

Measuring body fat percentage

Below is a chart showing the appropriate body fat percentages for men and women at various ages. Part of losing weight is and body fat is being aware of what you are eating. A great way to keep track of what you are putting in your body is by counting macronutrients or macros. Check out our blog on counting macros and how you can fit this practice into your fitness journey! 

In order to actually know if you are losing body fat, you need a way to track it. One way you can track is by using a scale that measures body fat. Do your research when looking for the right scale. Did you know, all of our Fit Factory clubs have a body fat measurement tool? Just ask an employee at the front desk, your Personal Trainer, or the Fitness Directory and someone will be more than happy to assist you!

By measuring what matters and watching your progress you won’t only feel more fit but you will also be building your self esteem! Being able to look back from where you started even if it has only been a few weeks is a great thing. Our bodies are amazing and you have the power to make yours the best it can be!
